Directions to World Tai Chi Day

World Tai Chi Day takes place on the last Saturday of April every year. From 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on this day, people in all time zones around the world practice Tai Chi; so that, for every hour of the day, the earth is encircled by positive energy.

This year, Peace Arch Tai Chi is holding a practice at Peace Arch Park in celebration of World Tai Chi Day. Peace Arch Tai Chi is a collaborative effort between Tai Chi enthusiasts from both sides of the border to use Tai Chi to create and build friendship amongst all people, regardless of age, race, creed, ethnicity, gender, or sexual preference.”

CJ Prince of Bellingham, WA, Kelly Hong-Williams of Surrey, BC, and Annie Wright, a high school senior at Blaine High School, are co-organizing the practice. Annie has been working tirelessly on this event for her Senior Project. “We wanted somewhere that was accessible to both our Canadian friends as well as our State side friends, and at Peace Arch Park, everyone can come and enjoy the day without having to cross the border.”

The event starts at 9:15 a.m., in Heritage Hall, and will go through noon, but there is no pressure to show up on time or stay the whole length. We would like everyone to come join us for some Tai Chi for Arthritis, Yang Style Tai Chi, and Ba Duan Jin Qigong. All levels of experience are welcome! There will also be a performance of Kung Fu Fan while you enjoy tea and treats.

Annie Wright chose to co-organize and co-host World Tai Chi Day 2019 as “to promote awareness of Asian culture and to show the significance of a healthy mental and physical state,” as stated in her Letter of Intent in October. We would all like this to be a success, especially as a send-off to Annie.
