I’m Nervous

Hello Friends!

Many years ago, when I was doing my Qigong certification, I had the rare opportunity to meet the head of the Chinese Health Qigong Association. It was a brief but life changing interaction.

I was invited to ask him one question, and it was this. There were times when my mind was very calm, but my body was nervous (to the point of shaking), and I didn’t know why. It was as though my mind and body were disconnected. He looked at me very intently, and I suddenly felt a searing heat in my diaphragm. He then walked away leaving my teacher and her teacher looking very confused. There had been no words exchanged, but it was obvious that there had been an interaction. When they asked what had happened, I told them what I’d felt, and my teacher’s teacher stared at me. He asked my teacher a question, and she turned to me and asked, “you felt heat?” I nodded, pointing to my diaphragm. He said something, and my teacher turned to me and said, “He says you must be a very nervous person”. I didn’t understand at the time because in that moment I felt that “nervous” was the last word that I would use to describe myself.

Recently, it occurred to me that my teacher sometimes used words that didn’t really fit, but were close enough that I could get the general idea of what she was saying. Perhaps by “nervous” she meant “sensitive”. After all, isn’t it nerves that make us feel? And feeling is what sensitives do. That made so much more sense to me.

I feel things. A lot. It can be challenging, especially in times like these. If I didn’t know that I was an empath, I might think that I was, indeed, a very nervous person.

If you’re “nervous”, you may be struggling right now. You may be getting caught up in the anxiety and the outrage that the world is feeling in these crazy times. It may be overwhelming. My advice to you is to go inward. Find that feeling of peace and radiate it outward. If you’re a sensitive, this is your job. The lines that connect you to other people go both ways. Instead of letting them affect you, you can turn it around and affect them instead. It takes practice. It takes determination. It takes focus. We need to do our best to remain calm and in alignment. The best way to do this is first to take good care of ourselves. Do something that makes you happy today. Then tomorrow, do something that makes you happy. And the next day, and the next. That’s your job. Get happy. Get peaceful. You will be doing a service for other sensitives out there who are looking for shelter in this storm.
